Telehealth is simply the provision of healthcare remotely by means of telecommunication technology. Telehealth is a relatively new delivery modality that allows professionals to provide a broad range of services. It allows for practitioners to deliver the same quality of services, in a more convenient way to consumers. Specific to psychotherapy, research has been conducted over the years to compare in-person psychotherapy to those delivered through telehealth. The American Telehealth Association made this statement “to date, no studies have identified a patient subgroup that does not benefit from, or is harmed by mental healthcare provided through remote videoconferencing…”based on large randomized control studies (RCTs), as well as many smaller trials. In fact, telehealth has gained popularity over the years because of the convenience it affords patients through decreased travel burden, decreased time away from work, family, and other responsibilities, and greater flexibility.
